Formigues Islands

Sea landscape, with Formigues Islands on the horizon.

The Formigues Islands or, in English, The Ants Islands (obviously due to their small size) are located between Palamós and Palafrugell. Here, seven centuries ago, took place a naval battle between Roger de Llúria and Philip II of France.

Roger de Llúria’s troops won and, according to some historical records, he ordered the eyes of 300 prisoners to be gouged out except for one, who guided them back to France. Yikes.
